One of the most interesting sights of St Petersburg which represents a rare combination of an architectural monument and “a temple of art”. Over the years numerous well-known architects worked on the palace, and it is known for the hodgepodge of architectural styles. Since 1830 unabashedly rich and powerful Yusupov family owned the palace. The apartments of the last owners are opened to the public.
The palace is also known for the assassination of Grigory Rasputin, the Siberian peasant, who was believed to possess some mystical powers. Even today almost 100 years later the gloomy story is surrounded by a great deal of mystery and controversy.
