Petrodvorets is one of the major palace-and-park complexes in the suburbs of St. Petersburg and is arguably the most impressive of them. This magnificent architectural ensemble overlooking the Gulf of Finland is known for its stately parks with marble statues of gods and heroes, numerous palaces and pavilions, beautiful fountains.
The numerous fountains required a lot of water. The engineers of the time devised a sophisticated piping system using the peculiarities of the landscape and the gravity force to supply the fountains with water. That is a unique feature that allows Petrodvorets fountains much more working time as compared to Versailles fountains.
